Woodstock Hyacinth Bulbs fill mid-spring beds with richly colored flower spikes and strong perfume. Hyacinthus orientalis 'Woodstock' produces dense clusters of beetroot-purple to maroon florets with rose and burgundy undertones on compact 8- to 12-inch stems. The saturated color feels more unusual than the classic blue hyacinths and pairs beautifully with pale daffodils, cream tulips, and early spring foliage. We like it close to paths and entry pots, where the fragrance is easy to notice on cool spring mornings.

This heirloom hyacinth selection dates back to the early 20th century and remains popular because the color is both deep and garden-friendly. Each bulb produces a formal flower spike above short, strappy green leaves, then relaxes slightly in later years as the bulbs settle into the garden. Hyacinths are deer resistant, useful for cutting, and excellent for forcing indoors when properly chilled. Use Woodstock Hyacinth Bulbs in borders, clustered patio containers, spring bulb beds, or small sensory plantings where fragrance is part of the design.

Woodstock Hyacinth Bulbs Care

Plant Woodstock Hyacinth Bulbs in full sun to partial shade, with stronger sun prompting stockier flower stems. Choose loose, well-drained soil amended with organic matter if the planting area is heavy or compacted. A slightly acidic to neutral soil pH, about 6.0 to 7.0, is a good range for healthy root development.

Water thoroughly after fall planting to settle soil around the bulbs. Avoid extra watering through fall and winter unless conditions are unusually dry. In spring, keep the soil moderately moist while leaves and flowers are active; taper watering as the foliage begins to yellow. Feed at planting with a bulb fertilizer or balanced slow-release fertilizer placed below the root zone or top-dressed according to the label. Hyacinth bulbs are sensitive to rot, so summer dormancy should be on the drier side.

Wear gloves when handling hyacinth bulbs, since the outer skin can irritate some people. Remove faded flower spikes after bloom so the bulb does not spend energy on seed. Leave the foliage until it yellows and pulls away easily, then clear it from the bed or container.

Woodstock Hyacinth Bulbs Spacing

Plant Woodstock Hyacinth Bulbs 4 to 6 inches deep and 6 to 8 inches apart, with the pointed end facing up. In containers, use a pot at least 10 to 12 inches wide with drainage holes, planting bulbs close enough for a full spring display but not touching. Container soil should stay lightly moist during active spring growth, but should dry down after the leaves finish.

For container companions, use pansies, primrose, or alyssum to cover the soil surface and echo the cool-season bloom window. In garden beds, daffodils are excellent partners because they share fall planting timing, resist deer, and contrast nicely with Woodstock’s darker flowers. Hellebores and foxglove suit nearby part-shade borders, adding foliage and later bloom interest after the hyacinths finish.
